From screen to paper, from touchpad to die stamping, from retina display to cotton paper. Only a few agencies are familiar with the art of letterpress and one of them is the charming print studio Letterjazz.
Boom. I am in love. I am in love with letters. With typography. With letterpress and with our new agency business cards. Touchscreens and high resolution displays are great, but in the end of the day, I get really excited about paper. Yes, paper! It is a medium with which we communicate feelings, emotions and values. Paper is philosophy, poetry and atmosphere. With the style of an invite or a business card you are able to show how you feel about others and how you want to be perceived.
Paper has many facets, all of which leave behind an impression: How does the material feel in-between the fingertips, how is the light reflected on its surface, and what sound does it make? So, it’s not only about the words we use, but how we present them, which typography we choose and which printing process we apply.
The adorable print studio in the Ruhr area, Letterjazz, brings life to a world of paper, including business cards, invites and packages and hence turns them into sophisticated print products. The studio works with historical and valuable cast-iron machines. They are as old as the hills, but their 28 tons of pure printing power help to endow the paper with a three-dimensional quality. Though this process is time-consuming, exhausting and thus, quite expensive for the consumer, it is definitely worth the cost as the combination of modern design and a century old printing method brings a very special product to the fore. So what else can I say? Letterpress rocks. And Letterjazz swings along!
